A pampering treat with Pink Palour

Being ambassador of the Positively Teal campaign (to raise awareness for Ovarian cancer), has brought many good things in my direction. One of them was a complimentary Mani and Pedi at Pink Palour. Imagine my surprise a week ago when Rachel emailed us to go for our pampering session to be ready for the party! That’s right, the Positively Teal party is happening at Zouk tonight!

So anyway back to Pink Palour:

Amazing interior decor. Everything was so pink and princess-y.

There were flowers, chandeliers, zebra prints and even a TV! A lot of thought was put into the concept and design of the beauty palour and all it aims to do is to pamper us girls!! And one thing I must mention was the quality service! The manicurists were so polite and gentle that I didn’t feel any discomfort even when they were clipping away my cuticles. Zero fuss and zero pain. They also offered me coffee, tea, ice lemon tea, peach tea, ginger latte, but I requested for plain water. Lol.

TV right in front of me so I wouldn’t be bored during my treatment. How thoughtful!

Customized zebra print feet rest.

Framed-up magazine covers give the place an instant glamourous feel, and is a good alternative to framing Hollywood movie posters.

Luxurious zebra faux fur wallpaper.

My sparkly teal nails, ready for the party! I’ve also made a few teal accessories for the fashion walk to go along with my ensemble. Teal is such a unique colour and few people realize its beauty. I didn’t use to be so sensitive to the colour before, but now my radar eyes pick up teal wherever I go – teal dresses/tops/accessories/shoes.

<3 <3 my nails! Thank you Pink Palour for your generosity!

Biore’s UV AQUA Rich Face Mousse vs Perfect Face Milk

Biore has so many types of sunscreens that I really haven’t got down to trying them all. I have been using Biore’s Perfect Face Milk daily on days that I do not apply BB cream for a period of time now.  But I am really curious about how the different types of sunscreens would appear on my face and the properties that they feature. Some are matte-ifying, while some are hydrating etc etc..

From the AQUA RICH range: Face Mousse and UV Gel

From the Milk range: Perfect Face Milk, Bright Face Milk, Moist Face Milk, UV Perfect Milk. Source

Hmm, I wonder what the difference is between all the face milks…

For this post, I tried Biore UV AQUA Rich Face Mousse and I’m going to compare it with Biore Perfect Face Milk. Perhaps I’ll try their UV AQUA rich Watery Jelly next. There’s also the Bright Face Milk that promises to give you the glow and shine like Japanese/Korean girls.. Imagine the number of looks you can create every day just by using different sunscreens! #mindblown

This is the sample size I received from TheSampleStore. Thanks to them that I’m able to review this product as well. Otherwise it’s madness to buy them all in the range to test out the effects!

It has a mousse-like texture, as suggested by its name. And perhaps the most interesting thing is that when you spread it on your face, it totally feels like spreading chocolate mousse cake on it. It is airy, light, goes on smoothly and gets absorbed fast.

After applying, the effect is a healthy-looking shine without being oily. It is great for outdoor activities like sports with its SPF 50+/pa+++ feature. It also has Hyaluronic Acid that locks in moisture, and citrus essence that softens skin. I use this when I want to hydrate my skin for the day, but I actually prefer my face to be matte, so I would also have to put on concealer and loose powder after I apply the mousse.

For lazy days… I would recommend the following, Perfect Face Milk!

(Note: more suitable for combination to oily skin types. For normal or sensitive skin types, it might be over-drying.)

Bought this at Watson’s and after browsing through Biore’s super wide range of sunscreen products, I figured this would suit me best. It’s my second bottle actually. It’s very simple. I love it because it has THE BEST MATTE EFFECT that lasts throughout the whole day! Normal sunscreens would be too heavy/oily on my face and that causes break outs. However, just look at how light-weight this darling is.

It comes out as a thin, watery liquid and it gets absorbed really quickly, leaving no sticky feeling. In fact, it makes the skin smooth with its Sebum-absorbing powder. Yes, powder in sunscreen! I don’t even have to apply loose powder after that. Just some concealer and I’m ready to go and it looks like I have smooth and matte skin the entire day! I cannot rave about it any less because this is the first sunscreen product that promises me a shine-free face, and delivers it. <3<3

Verdict:

I really like the Perfect Face Milk for its matte effects, but I realized that it can be drying after prolonged use, such as my skin will be flaky, or flaky regions would be more visible. So I try not to use it for more than a week consecutively. On other days, I might use my BB cream (it has SPF properties too), or the Face Mousse. It depends on my mood. :)

Beauty DIY event – Judy Lin “女人我最大”林叶亭老师 in Singapore!

I am so honoured to be invited to Judy Lin’s beauty event, and what’s more? To be styled by the celebrity beauty and hair stylist herself! Major grin pls =))

Judy Lin, aka 林叶亭老师, is a regular face in Taiwan’s famous variety show ” 女人我最大”. She has over 20 years of beauty styling experience for celebrities in Taiwan and now she’s coming to Singapore for a public event organized by Beauty Bistro.

Click for a larger image.

I’ll be at Suntec City Hall 402 for the hair styling segment at 4:15pm – 4:45pm. I’m mad excited to see her in real person, and wonder what hairstyle she’ll be giving me! I am a goondu when it comes to styling my hair. For goodness’ sake, I don’t even know how to do french braid for myself! I don’t own curling tongs nor styling products. When it comes to my hair, I’m boring to tears. (I’m just glad that it hasn’t given me too much problem) So I definitely need her help! :)

*Update* they cancelled the event on the 14th at suntec!

Come down to the event and learn how to keep your hair healthy and beautiful, and using the right products for your tresses!

There are also going to be other segments such as slimming, skin care, face care, so you’re gonna learn so much from the 女人我最大 beauty guru :)

Za’s Total Hydration Amino Mineral Refreshing Gel Review

Today, I have yet another awesome product to introduce! It’s the Za Total Hydration Amino Mineral Refreshing Gel.

This gel minimizes stickiness and thoroughly replenishes moisture to give the skin a clarified glow and vibrancy.

  • Spreads effortlessly with a dewy, pleasant sensation to form a water veil that instantly restores flaky, sticky skin
  • For skin that tens to feel flaky yet greasy

Directions: Smooth an appropriate amount over face with fingertips.

I want to rave about this because not only does it do what it promises, it is also an absolutely good pore minimizer and make up base! I use it after my moisturizer and before my Maybelline BB White cream. My BB cream glided on very smoothly, and my nose pores were very much less visible than if I did not apply the gel. I know because there was once I forgot to apply it, and I was shocked at how visible my pores were. Then I had to remove my BB cream and start the routine over again, this time with the gel.

After applying, my face was also cool and dewy, as it locks the moisture in and also acts as a barrier between make up and face. The best part is, it is non-clogging to pores! So after removing make up after a whole day, there are no clogged, large and ugly pores to greet you.

AND, because it’s in gel form, it doesn’t exacerbate oily skin like cream & milk moisturizers do. Perfect for combination to oily skin types.

Other brownie points:

  • It’s in a cute pink tube!
  • Retailing at only $10.90 at Watson’s

What’s more not to love? :))

Freeman Sugar Body Scrub Pomengranate Review

I’ve heard of bath salts, where they use salt to exfoliate,  but bath sugar? It’s new to me.

I checked this out from my cart at TheSampleStore and received it a week later, along with other samples. They gave me 2 packets! At first I thought I could just apply it on my body, but the instructions say massage onto wet skin. So I used it in the shower.

The moment I opened the packet, the smell was soooo good. It smelled like, sugar and pomegranate. Wait, that’s what it’s made of anyway. I wonder if we can eat it. Then I scrubbed it all over my body, the sugar dissolved really quickly, maybe too fast to achieve any serious exfoliating. So it was pretty gentle to the skin. Then I rinsed it all off, and goodness gracious, I still smelled like sugar and pomegranate. Yummy! :)

Verdict:

My skin was smoother after that, but I think I’ll need more applications to find out if it really leaves skin younger like it promised. Haha that’s so subjective. AND I suspect we can DIY this sugar + pomegranate concoction at home in the kitchen! So I guess I wouldn’t really buy it from the drugstore. But getting it free from TheSampleStore… why not? ;)
