Picnic @ Lower Seletar Reservoir

ShabbyBlogsDividerF

Despite our busy schedules and tons of work to do, Hammy and I still took some time out for a small picnic! After work one afternoon, he ordered Mcdonald’s and whisked me away to Lower Seletar Reservoir, and even surprised me with a guest appearance of Bear bear. Heehee.

Lower Seletar is one of our hangouts cuz it’s near my place, and quiet. On weekends, families would bring their children to play at the water playground. And not to mention, the scenery is good! :) On that day, we had the whole place to ourselves, so Bear bear could come out and explore too.

It was hot but thanks to the sail-like shelter, the amphitheatre was quite cooling with the breeze.

The sun was in my eyes! Spot Bear bear.

It was running errands day, yet we managed to enjoy ourselves silly. Hammy had to pick up his grandmother’s medicine from Tan Tock Seng pharmacy and help his sister to collect Table Mate from NTUC house.

After collecting medicine, we had lunch at our usual hangout in Novena Sq 2 – Seoul Yummy! Seoul Yummy first appealed to us cuz they provided side dishes along with their set meals, we are a sucker for korean side dishes.

Isn’t the decor pretty?? Haha before the dishes came we goofed around a little.

Whenever we eat at Korean restaurants, we’d make sure that side dishes are free-flow. It’s a must because we love them so much that we’d ask for refills. Different Korean restaurants serve different side dishes and even for the same side dish, there are variations to how it is prepared.

From clockwise: Radish, giant beansprouts, tofu, Ikan Bilis, peanuts, Kimchi.

My favs are the ikan bilis, tofu and kimchi, while Hammy’s favs are the Ikan bilis and giant beansprouts. I think we asked for refills thrice. :D

We ordered their Hotpot Bean Paste Soup ($9.99). It’s seoul yummy! The soup was rich in flavour and full of ingredients.

The Curry Rice Pork Cutlet ($9.99) was nice as well; the curry with potatoes and carrots was delicious, but the pork cutlet turned a little hard when the dish got cold.

What I want to say is that their service improved! There was no doubt a change in staff, which was a good decision, because the previous staff were not very friendly and even gave us condescending looks for ordering only one set meal once. Come on man, that time we were just having tea break and not very hungry! But this time the staff was polite even after we asked for side dishes refill so many times. So, we wrote feedback =) Hope it’ll make her day.

After lunch, we headed to Queen’s Street to collect the Table Mate.

But after reaching, we realized that we had gone to the wrong NTUC house and didn’t manage to get the table mate, but we decided to explore the area as Hammy had already torn half an hour of parking coupon! So, we went to Singapore Arts Museum =) Really love this kind of impromptu surprise. It was my first time there, though I really like to look at art installations, oil paintings and stuff. It’s a special kind of feeling when you can stand near to an oil painting and actually see the individual paintbrush strokes the artist took to build upon layers and layers of colours to get the final masterpiece.

To our surprise, it was free to enter the museum and Hammy was upset cuz he thought he could use his NAFA student card to get free admission. He’s been rather proud that his student card can get him free entry to 8 museums in Singapore. Haha but turned out that SAM was free to everyone that day. Lol.. =P

Hammy running up the stairs to avoid being caught in the photo.

Can you spot him? He thought he was small enough to hide!! Silly.

I wanted to show the interesting curve of the bench. This bench is also selfish cuz it only has space for two butts! Unfortunately there was only two of us and we couldn’t have a photo together on the bench. Then Hammy said, take two photos and he’ll photoshop us together. Wait, does that mean he’ll be sitting on my fingers?? It probably isn’t possible too cuz the angle of the bench is different! =S haha I don’t know ah, he’ll go and figure it out…one day.

Happiness finds us at the most unexpected times =)

Lunch date at Bakerzin’s.

A couple of weeks ago, Hammy and I were unable to meet up for a few days due to clashes in schedule. When we finally met, he was all cheerful and scarily happy, and feeling generous that he suggested eating at Bakerzin’s. Usually when we walk around in Northpoint, we wouldn’t think of going Bakerzin’s cuz it’s a little pricey. But with the lunch promotion – a main, soup and drink for $10.90 – it actually isn’t that harmful on the pockets!

Like a little girl who was rewarded with a good meal, I even suggested that perhaps I shouldn’t meet up with him for another few days and maybe we’d get to eat something good again! Haha I was just fooling.

I love the free-flow of bread at Bakerzin’s, you can choose to toast them manually at the toaster and have them crispy, or have them chewy without toasting. Accompanied by olive oil and balsamic vinegar, the bread was delightful, although I felt it went best with the pumpkin soup.

The set meal we ordered: Teriyaki Chicken, Pumpkin soup and Ice Tea ($10.90). It was our first date in Bakerzin’s and I’m not sure if this was the best dish to order, as the sushi rice was a little dry. But all I can say is it was very filling, for the both of us! Yes, we shared one set meal and felt so stuffed after that (must have been all that extra bread we had). The chicken was pretty sweet, but the pumpkin soup was REALLY GOOD.

Aha, then we decided to be a little adventurous and tried the Baileys Irish Cream souffle ($8.80). After watching Hell’s Kitchen and hearing Gordon Ramsay scold aspiring chefs for collapsed/watery/mushy souffles, we reckoned that it must be a pretty hard dessert to make, plus it has to be made on the spot. But Bakerzin’s apparently did it right, because we were bowled over, and that must have been the nicest dessert I’ve had. MUST TRY! It looks like a sponge cake, but tastes like foam that melts in your mouth.

Do you know how to eat a souffle?

- Open a hole in the middle of the souffle. A good souffle should not collapse nor sink into the cup.

- Pour in any sauces into the hole, in this case it was the Baileys Irish Cream.

- Dig in!!

We will certainly be back to try their other desserts, with eyes on their Creme Brulee next!
